Why F-tax is decisive
Anyone who pays a private individual without F-tax for a gig in practice becomes the employer for that payment: a 30 % tax deduction, 31.42 % employer contributions and an employer declaration by the 12th of the following month. A gig of 10 000 kr then costs the customer around 13 142 kr and creates a monthly declaration. That is why F-tax is required to take payment through Talentsio.
The VAT exemption, and how it disappears
A performer who performs a copyright-protected work before an audience, and sells the performance directly, is exempt from VAT under the Swedish VAT Act. The exemption also covers what is ancillary to the performance: travel, accommodation, instruments and equipment. But the exemption falls away as soon as somebody else sells the performance in their own name. That includes invoicing services. It is the single most important design detail in the whole arrangement.
Umbrella employment: convenient, but expensive in a way you do not see
Frilans Finans charges 4 to 6 % (source: Frilans Finans, as of September 2026) and Cool Company 5.98 % (source: Cool Company, as of September 2026) to employ you for the job and handle the salary and the contributions. That solves the administration. But because the invoice then comes from a company other than you, the performance is sold by a third party, and the VAT exemption disappears. So you cannot both escape the administration and keep the VAT-free fee. For anyone who plays regularly, F-tax of your own is almost always cheaper.
What the platform reports
Digital platforms that arrange personal services are covered by DAC7 and must each year report the payments per seller to the Swedish Tax Agency, broken down by quarter, by 31 January. The exemption for small sellers applies only to the sale of goods, not to services. So every talent who is paid through a platform is reportable, however few gigs it concerns. It is nothing to worry about, but it is worth knowing before the figures turn up in your tax return.
What to ask for in every booking
A written contract with the dates, the times and the equipment. An overtime rate. Cancellation terms with a schedule of dates. Payment terms and a due date. And an invoice that matches the contract. On Talentsio the invoice is made in Stripe on your own account, and Stripe numbers it in your account's own series. It is still your invoice, and making sure it is right is still your responsibility.
